Tips Before You Visit

Stay Dry on Rainy Days

After exiting Higashi-shinjuku Station at Exit A3, you can walk through the East Side Square shopping complex to reach Shinjuku Bunka Center with minimal exposure to rain. Using this indoor route is highly recommended on wet days.

The Grand Hall Renovation

The Grand Hall underwent a major renovation from November 2023 to September 30, 2025. The facility reopened on October 1, 2025, and Grand Hall general bookings began on December 1, 2025. The seating capacity was reduced from 1,802 to 1,601, with wider seats and improved accessibility features. If you visited before the renovation, note that the interior has changed significantly.

Choosing the Right Station Exit

Higashi-shinjuku Station is served by both the Toei Oedo Line and the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line, and Exit A3 is accessible from both platforms. If you are coming from Shinjuku-sanchome Station, use Exit E1 (Fukutoshin Line, approx. 7 min walk) or Exit C7 (Shinjuku Line, approx. 10 min walk).

Shinjuku West Exit Redevelopment

Major redevelopment work is ongoing around Shinjuku Station’s West Exit based on the Shinjuku Grand Terminal concept (completion expected in the 2040s). Since September 2025, traffic and pedestrian routes around the West Exit plaza have changed. If you plan to access the venue via Shinjuku Station, check the latest information in advance.

Post-Performance Crowds

Immediately after performances end, crowds disperse in two directions — toward Higashi-shinjuku Station Exit A3 and toward Shinjuku-sanchome Station. Expect congestion around exits for approximately 15–20 minutes after the show. Taxis are available on the south side of the venue if you need a faster departure.

Japan’s First Cavaillé-Coll-Style Pipe Organ

The Grand Hall houses Japan’s first full-scale pipe organ built in the tradition of the 19th-century French organ builder Aristide Cavaillé-Coll. For classical music enthusiasts, learning about the instrument’s background before your visit adds an extra layer of appreciation to the experience.
